The Health Sciences Library is delighted to announce our Books on Prescription collection will be launching this Friday.
The programme is administered by the Southern PHO and has been taken up around the Otago, Southland and Waitaki areas by Doctors, Allied Health practitioners and Public Libraries. Books are prescribed by clinicians and patients borrow them from their public library.
We’ve set this up to prepare students for their experiences on clinical placement where they may encounter the programme. We subsequently realised that, an important secondary benefit of this service is that any member of staff or student can borrow these books for their own wellbeing.
Please take a look at our Books on Prescription Guide http://otago.libguides.com/bop
The guide includes background to the programme, links to academic papers about bibliotherapy, and has a full list of all the books we hold that are part of the programme. The books are borrowable from the Medical Library and all contain Books on Prescription sticker that provides a link back to this guide.
